Trike Ground Lesson 2: Basic Aerodynamics – Stability, Control, Forces, Stalls

Objective

For you to have an understanding of basic aerodynamics and the forces acting on an aircraft.

Assignments

Complete the five assignments.
1. Watch the Adventure Productions videos.

Aero, Part 2.0 Intro & Weight

Aero, Part 2.1 Lift

Aero, Part 2.2 Drag

Aero, Part 2.3 Thrust

Aero, Part 2.4 All Forces

Aero, Part 2.5 Controls, Tuning and Stability

Aero, Part 2.6 Stalls and Spirals

Aero, Part 2.7 Theory to Practical -Twist Demonstration

Aero, Part 2.8 Theory to Practical -Tip Angle of Attack Demonstration

2. Read HPTS WEIGHT-SHIFT CONTROL AIRCRAFT PILOT’S HANDBOOK OF AERONAUTICAL KNOWLEDGE:

3. Read the FAA WEIGHT-SHIFT CONTROL AIRCRAFT FLYING HANDBOOK (FAA-H-8083-5)

4. After taking the quiz in this topic, and since this is the last lesson in the Aerodynamics section, it is time to start the ASA ONLINE PREPWARE. (You received a login code via email when you purchased this course.)

This is where you will start practicing the actual questions for the FAA Knowledge Test. You will go into the ASA Prepware application and choose Sport Pilot Weight-Shift Control. In some of the ASA applications you need to choose Private Pilot to see all the non CFI options.   For this Aerodynamics lesson, choose Chapter “1. Basic Aerodynamics” and select ALL the topics for the “1. Basic Aerodynamics” chapter.

Note that as you continue through this course, you will do the ground lesson first and then select the ASA Prepware  appropriate Chapter and Topics in the ASA Prepware to practice the FAA questions after you cover the ground school material in this course. So, get that ASA Prepware code ready and click on the “ASA Prepware” link you received on your ASA welcome e mail to access the ASA Prepware application and start working with the FAA practice questions.

5. Read Manufacturer’s PILOT OPERATING HANDBOOK (POH) section “Normal Procedures”. Example: Revo POH/AFM/AOI. If you’ll be using a different aircraft, download specific aircraft from that aircraft manufacturer.
